Goan beef Cutlets

A popular street food which is found at the local ghados(stalls)in goa and is called as cutlet pao and is enjoyed by most of the goans,Here the beef is thinly sliced and tenderise using a mallet,marinated with the spices then dipped in whisked egg,coated with semolina,shallow fried and served with pao and salad.




๐Ÿ‘‰1/2 kg beef meat (undercut)/steak cut meat cut into thin slices

๐Ÿ‘‰2 tbsp vinegar

๐Ÿ‘‰salt to taste

๐Ÿ‘‰1 cup semolina

๐Ÿ‘‰2 whisked eggs


For the masala

๐Ÿ‘‰3 green chillies

๐Ÿ‘‰1 cup of fresh coriander leaves

๐Ÿ‘‰1 small ball of tamrind( lime size)

๐Ÿ‘‰1 tsp cumin seeds

๐Ÿ‘‰1โ€cinnamon

๐Ÿ‘‰1/2 tsp turmeric powder

๐Ÿ‘‰7 to 8 cloves

๐Ÿ‘‰2 cardamom

๐Ÿ‘‰1 tsp poppy seeds

๐Ÿ‘‰1 tsp black peppercorns

๐Ÿ‘‰1โ€(inch)ginger

๐Ÿ‘‰ 1 small pod of garlic


๐Ÿ‘‰Grind the above masala to a fine paste adding little water.remove it from the blender and keep it aside.


๐Ÿ‘‰Wash the meat and tenderize it by using meat mallet, apply salt,2 tbsp vinegar,3 tbsp of the above ground masala,coat it well to the meat..Marinate it for 2 hours. You can store the rest masala for later use or use it for any fish/meat to fry.



๐Ÿ‘‰After the marination dip each slice of meat into a whisked egg and then coat it into semolina or breadcrumbs.



๐Ÿ‘‰Heat up a frying pan on medium flame add in 3 tbsp oil shallow fry each slice for 5 mins turning both the sides.turn off the heat and let it rest for 5 mins.




๐Ÿ‘‰Serve hot with bread and salad or as a side dish or a starter...

Rosy thanks very much for your Beef Cutlet recipe , it is superb and I will try it out soon. There is a cart at the Candolim Tinto that makes this great Goan Cutlet Pao. It starts at 5 and by 9 pm it is all over . Cutlet Pao is their to food take away among 10 other dishes
