A traditional Goan dish made with meat and vegetables and topped with cooked pasta.
In Goa this traditional beef stew is served at weddings and special occasions.
The stew is generally prepared with pork, beef vegetables and Macaroni. In this recipe I have prepared this stew with beef, vegetables and macaroni. do give it a try to this delicious stew.
Ingredients:
๐500gms of beef(tender cut into chunks)
๐250 gms macaroni
๐2 medium onions chopped
๐1 large tomato chopped
๐20 peppercorns
๐10 cloves
๐2โcinnamon stick
๐2 tbsp ginger garlic paste
๐1 lime
๐1 tsp cumin powder
๐1/4 tsp turmeric powder
๐1/2 tsp black pepper powder
๐2 green chillies
๐1 small ball of tamrind(soaked in water)
๐2 cups cubed potatoes
๐1 cup cubed carrots
๐1 cup chopped small length wise french beans
๐2 tbsp butter
๐1 Maggie cube/bouillon cube
๐1tsp salt
๐2 tbsp oil
๐1 tbsp fresh cream
Method:
๐Wash and Cut the meat into small chunks apply salt, 1 tsp ginger garlic paste squeeze in a lime...let it marinate for half hour.
๐In a separate pot boil the macaroni with water, salt and a tsp of oil..when boiled drain the water of the macaroni keep it aside.
๐In a pot on medium fire pour in 1 tbsp butter and 2 tbsp oil when the oil is hot add the whole spices that is black peppercorns ,cloves, cinnamon let it splatter.
๐Add in chopped onions sautรฉ for while and add in tomatoes sautรฉ then add in 1 tsp ginger garlic paste fry until the raw smell goes and itโs nice and mushy. add in cumin, turmeric and black pepper powder
๐On a medium flame add in the tender marinated meat to the pot mix the meat with all the masala paste then add in tamrind pulp mix in altogether. At this stage add in 1 cup of hot water mix it altogether, cover the pot with the lid and let it cook for 10 mins then add all the vegetables, add in Maggie cube simmer for 6 to 7 mins then add in two green chillies and mix in properly
๐ Last add the boiled macaroni and 1 tbsp butter ,mix in gently. let all the macaroni soak in the juicy gravy.then add 1 tbsp fresh cream give it a gentle stir.
๐Simmer for 3 mins...when done serve hot with bread or eat it just like that.
Beef stew is eaten with what actually? I remember the good old days in Goa when the mestas(cooks) would cook for weddings at homes They would serve it with square fried bread make out of wheat flour salt and lard( pork fat) Till now we at our home eat it like that but instead of lard use Butter or Ghee.
