Goan Sorak Curry

Staying away from home surely teaches you a lot...Missing my mom’s sorak curry...so called her up and asked her for her recipe of curry...

The aroma of the curry takes me back to my childhood...such a simple curry yet elegant in its way




Sorak curry is a traditional curry made during monsoons in Goa.Due to heavy rains when fish is not easily available, then people prepare the sorak,It is eaten with steamed rice or hot bread,It is prepared with freshly grated coconut,dry Kashmiri chillies and other spices





INGREDIENTS:

1 cup grated coconut 1/4 tsp turmeric powder 5 to 6 peppercorns 1 1/2 tbsp coriander seeds 5 to 6 Kashmiri chillies 1 small marble size of Tamrind Salt to taste 1 medium finely chopped onion 1 medium finely chopped tomatoes






METHOD:

* Grind to fine paste coconut, coriander seeds, peppercorns, turmeric powder, Kashmiri chillies, tamrind, with little water. When done keep it it aside

* In a pot a medium flame heat up 1 tbsp oil, add in chopped onion fry until translucent

* Add in finely chopped tomatoes, when nice and mushy add in the ground paste, add in salt to taste

* Add in 2 cups of water or as required.

* Cover it and let it simmer for 5 to 8 to mins on a low to medium flame

* Turn off the gas, add in two slit green chillies... and your curry is ready to eat!!!!

*sorak curry tastes delious when eaten with steamed rice
