Whole Masoor Dal /Brown lentils

Whole masoor dal is also called the brown lentils basically brown covering from outside and orange from inside which has a creamy texture after it is boiled. In this recipe the gravy is the mixture of tomatoes and some spices. It makes a comforting vegetarian dinner when served with chapati or rice. Its flavourful and natural. it is a good source of cholesterol lowering fiber.

Do try this recipe if your looking out for high level of protein intake.


Ingredients:

👉2 cups brown lentils

👉3 medium chopped tomatoes

👉1 tsp cumin seeds

👉1/2 tsp red chilly powder

👉1 tsp kashmiri chilli powder

👉1 tbsp coriander powder

👉1 tsp garam masala

👉1/2 tsp turmeric powder

👉8 to 9 garlic cloves chopped

👉3 inch ginger chopped

👉A pinch of asafoetida

👉2 green chillies sliced

👉1 tbsp ghee mixed with 1 tbsp oil

👉1 tsp kasuri methi

👉1 tbsp lime juice

👉salt to taste


Method:

👉Wash the dal and soak it for 1/2 hour then pressure cook it with 3 cups of water and some salt to taste on medium heat around 5 to 6 whistles when cool down open the lid of the cooker and set it aside.



👉Take a pot on a medium heat add in ghee and oil when slightly hot add in asofiteda


👉Now add in cumin seeds chopped garlic and chopped ginger fry it till you get a nice aroma. do not brown it.


👉Now add in tomatoes stir it all up and let the tomatoes be mushy then add in the Garam masala ,turmeric powder,red chilly powder,Kashmiri chilly powder, coriander powder and mix it well now add in the pressure cooked brown lentils to the pot and add in slited green chillies and give it a good mix ,add in salt ,lime juice and if too thick add in little water and let it simmer for 5 to 6 mins till all the spices are combined with the cooked dal and then last add in the kasuri methi. Give it a stir and its ready.

👉Your whole masoor dal or brown lentils is ready to serve, It tastes delicious with chapatis or rice
